Going to Paris for a short tour

Is there any nice place to go? I have only 48 hrs there, including sleeping at night.
So far, I only know Effiel tower. -

Bring gf (and lotsa money) to Rue de Cambon for shopping. Eat at Monmarte or around Latin Quarter for its plethora of quaint choices, both very nice and romantic at night. For sightseeing, just walk and explore. It's a great walking city and the structures are so big you can't miss them. Of course, if you want to check out a museum, the Lourve is the top choice. But it's so big and overwhelming you may not have energy to enjoy the rest of the day (be prepared to spend at least 3-4 hours there just browsing).
On a more practical note, the transport system is great. There are train stations within 500 metres of each other so you can't really get lost. It's not a cheap place but neither is it expensive (food-wise). Parisians are quite alright in my opinion, no bad experiences, and service is always good.
But all in all, you will not be able to cover much of Paris in that 48 hours. I've been there twice and I've only explored Paris north of the river, still haven't explored the south (university) side.
Hope you enjoy yourself! P.S. Weather is abit erratic this part of the world currently, be warned. It can get really cold suddenly. -

The metro's last train is ard 10pm i think. They may have adjusted the timing since i was there in 2004. But ticketing is a problem and their ticket offices don't open beyond 2130h if i recall. You have to learn how to speak basic french else the people will just shrug their shoulders. Beware of pickpockets and petty thieves in and around paris. Pickpockets frequent the metro and target pouches, cameras, anything that is loose. Keep your eyes peeled and you'll be fine. Snatch thieves tend to work in groups of 2-3 with one distracting you while others snatch your stuff. But Paris is relatively safe so long as you stay vigilant.
Visit the la Tour d'Eiffel at night for the lighting up display; you can also try walking Champs-Élysées at night and watch the lights...it's quite a romantic scene. I hear the Louvre at night is also a worth a visit.
If you have time, you can visit the catacombs (closed during winter). The French resistance used it as an underground network during WWII. The Arc d'Triomphe is overrated so my advice is don't waste time. In any case, you need clear weather to get a good shot.
When in town and looking for something good to eat, visit this chain of restaurants: Tavernes de Maître Kanter. They serve delicious alsatian dishes such as pork knuckles, mised grills and fresh oysters. Their salads are fantastic too. Budget about 15-20 euros per person though...
