SINGAPORE : A woman has lost about S$50,000 in cash to an "Apple Scam".
She is the latest victim in a slew of cases reported to the police this year.
Five cases have been reported in the first quarter of 2007.
The cases usually involve up to three culprits, one of whom will introduce the victims to a medium.
Victims would be asked to put cash and jewellery in a plastic bag to give to the medium in exchange for a prayer to get rid of misfortune.
But when victims open the bag a few days after the ritual, they would discover that their valuables have been swopped with apples, newspapers, rock sugar and other items.
Police advise anyone who comes across similar cases to call "999". - CNA/ms
