BEIJING, June 1 (Reuters) - A quarter of imported children's milk bottles and teats failed a recent random quality test in southeast China, Xinhua news agency said on Friday, amid an overseas scare about Chinese food, drug and other products.
"Do you think foreign brands mean high quality?" the report asked, before detailing the findings of the survey in coastal Fujian province.
The results "should attract the highest attention from children and their parents", it added.
"These products are not up to standard for safety and hygiene reasons, and may harm children's safety and health," the report added.
The products came from Japan, Germany, Britain, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan and Hong Kong, Xinhua said, adding "most of them were brand-name goods".
China blamed the media on Thursday for stoking fears about the safety of the nation's food and drugs, but senior officials acknowledged that it was not realistic to expect a 100 percent quality guarantee.
They were reacting to a series of scandals that have plagued Chinese products, from poisoned cough syrup in Panama to tainted pet food in the United States, and shaken global confidence in the made-in-China label. -
well, it'll be hilarious if the brands they tested were actually made in PRC
but that being said, the asswipes in PRC manufacturing must remember that the lousy quality of the products of others do not give them an excuse to poison others -

i read an article last year when korea stopped all imports of kimchi made in china because it contained maggots, the next week china said the korean kimchi imported from korea had worms.. well the korean responded by implyingthat there was no companies in korea that exported that brand name of kimchi to china.. case of lam papa lan.. -

HSA recalls 3 toothpastes because of poisonous ingredients
Singapore's Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has recalled three China-made toothpastes because they contain Diethylene Glycol (DEG), a potentially poisonous ingredient.
DEG is a cheap industrial solvent dangerously used as a substitute for sweet-tasting glycerin in toothpastes.
The three products found to contain DEG are Hei Mei toothpaste, Hei Mei Calcium toothpaste and Maxam toothpaste with Fluoride.
DEG has been blamed for the death of thousands of people worldwide, with mass poisonings in Panama, India, Haiti, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Argentina and China in the past two decades. - CNA/ch -

Here's another real story.
Not so many days ago, a colleague bought China apples from a supermarket. He cut it up and kept in his backpack and brought it to office. 5 days later, he open up his bag and realize that he has forgotten to eat those apples. To his surprise, the cut apples remained a nice white colour and was still crunchy on breaking it!
Wah lao... how can cut apples not be spoilt after going through 5 hot days in his backpack! What kind of preservatives could have been placed in the apple?
So now u still want to eat apples from China? -
