Otherwise, the glut of people fighting for limited jobs in that industry will mean a lot of them will be unemployed. Even if they should get their "dream" job, the huge supply of graduates will push wages down soon in that industry.
That's the problem with messing too much with natural market demand and supply.
Ultimately, it causes imbalances which wrecks havoc on the economy.

Yes, becos for example in the late 1990s, local polys pushed for a IT and engineering courses citing that there is going to be a huge market demand...
Little they realised that the market can turn against overnite and manufacturing sector came to slumps.... There was an oversupply plus competition from graduates from India and china ...
On the other hand, business, service and health related courses which became hugely popular after 2000...
when the Sars and avian flu epidemics appeared.
Before u do sumthing pls do not listen to others. Becos it is gonna take a few years to graduate and get a cert and by then market conditions may change drastically...
BTw courses like hospitality and service line related are becoming popular now becos of the Sentosa IR thing. But no one yet knows if it is going to be successful.
Do what u want to do + your own stranghts and abilities. If u hate maths then dun do Engineering,
If u like maths then do it .
