anybody in NTU/NUS physics degree programs? Is it hard to get in? How's it? =]

Physics major in Science Faculty of NUS. Not so hard to get in (Sci Fac) since the fac intake quite huge. Majoring is another issue.

hmm, a physics major. So what exactly do you study in there? I had always wanted to choose physics but most people advised me against it as it is a very general degree unlike specialised degree in engineering?
What are the career prospects? -
You can do one thing with a degree in physics/chemistry/biology/mathematics -- teach.

No lah teaching is not the only you can do with it, just that teaching has more monetary perks.

Yea, I guess its pretty much so in Singapore.
I had a friend who went to interview for a job at XXX company. He had a science related degree. When enquired by the interviewer if he was going to study for a higher degree, he said yes and blah blah blah, what gain new area of expertise, gain knowledge. But the interviewer shot him back by saying "you better don't, we need ppl here to solve problems, not create problems and ponder over them"
I guess that's why. Money driven. -

Hmm not true, u see banks in The USA, they employ mathematicians and physicists to do modelling more than they employ econs students.
One of my friend when he got a banking job in US using his physics phd, ask his employer why he was chosen.
His employer simply said, we need ppl who can really think and solve frontiers problems, not ppl who can only use application of some stupid formulae. -

i see. If he had served ns, he would 35. Hmmm.....but a physics PhD, wow that's like a passport to a bright future. But surely 33 is not an old age for men, eh? Some of his peers started working at 25 or so, so he will be lagging them by 5yrs or so.

Generally a Science degree is not that useful in Singapore cause all the labs in Singapore are filled with those PRCs. It is a lot more useful for example in America. So unless you are willing to migrate you are better off trying to get a Engineering degree. It is true that if possible you should avoid a general degree and get a specialised degree.

I know a lot of people who take Chem Engine, come out complain about no jobs. The workload of Chem Engine is exorbitant (even by engineering standards) and the risk of not finding a job is high (not a lot of petrolchemical companies in Singapore) so do the Math.
