  I wonder why most Singaporeans dont speak all 4 official languages of Singapore and maybe you guys should learn some Tamil as well.The most difficult of all languages are Chinese,Japanese,Korean and Arabic so Tamil should be a lot easier.I had many Tamil friends when I was living in SIngapore but I wonder why they chose to speak Malay instead.

  being able to just say hi don't count...must know how to make perfect sentences otherwise write and also understand...becoz if liddat i can also say i know french, chinese, malay, english, indon, thai, jap, tagalog, german etc....

  mostly chose to speak malay maybe becoz they dun want to be less minority-like...

  Malay still a minority wat! Could be they are shy to use their language in public cuz people always stare and give the "what the fark is this mama talking about look ?"
  
  Yes,if being able to say hello counts then I speak all languages so people should explain why they are able to speak many languages.
  
  My father side of the family was from Pattani (Thailand) which explains why I speak Thai and Malay.Mother is Peranakan which explains why I speak hokkien and more Malay.I have lived on the border of Thailand/Laos for a few years and since laotian and Thai are like Indonesian and Malay it is easy for me to pick up Laotian.I worked in Latin America for several years and that was how i learned Spanish.left Singapore to become a Japanese citizen15 years ago and so I speak Japanese every day now.My third and presnt wife is Indonesian.So what is your story??
