anybody going to australia universities this coming year or havealreayd graduated from there?
Have a few qs though, how the heck did u people manage to pay ur fees of around 80K for the entire 3-4 yrs?
If loan from parents or bank, have to pay back right? pay until crazy man like that. -

Pay like crazy? Hmmm, basically, for the tenure of your studies, 3-4 yrs, you need not pay the installments. Paying back of the loans only starts when you graduate....
By then, I am sure you would or your parents would have saved quite an amount to pay off the loan slowly... -
so how long to pay it off? lets take 80k as assumption.
5yrs X 12 = 60 months
80000 / 60 = $1333 per month!?
all this havent add the interests rate....
have to pay $1300++ a month for 5 yrs
wow man, even if parents sponsor, cannot expect them to sponsor all also. -
overseas studies can borrow money one meh??
i tot the govt onli lend u money for local unis sch fees??
i dunno hw i mum paid. i came here since i was young like 14?? and i am 20 now.. so almost 6 years... and my family is not rich. we stay hdb... and my mum never told me anything abt borrowing money from govt, maybe through cpf?.... maybe borrow from banks?? -

of cos i was roughly estimating the costs, there's still lots of other hidden fees like living expenses, accodmodation and other little thingy.
need alot of $$. I dun tink i can make it overseas unless I strike the lottery or sumthing. taking a bank loan will take forever to return. of cos, thr's still my brother and sister who might be going overseas to. If so, there's no way my parents will afford to pay for all, unless they subsides only a little.
Furthermore, taking money from my dad is like squeezing water out of stone. he even resorted to hiding the airconditioners remote so as to not allowing useage of it, so the utilities bills would be huge.

My friend studied in Australia before; told me if you study there you confirm will do super well in your studies, because with the huge amount of money needed to study there you will make sure that you do well there.

i was there for 2years and spent 70K (that is what my dad say la, dun know true or not). all borrow from ma n pa cooperation.
as for pay back, ma n pa co-operation has not been chasing so i'm pretty lucky. anyway it is a debt that u will never ever be able to finish paying.
okie back to topic.....
cost of living in australia varies from state to state and amount spend varies from person to person.
generally rent in perth is cheap, brisbane average, melbourne and sydney expensive.
to save money, u can choose to -
a) go to state where rent is cheaper
b) stay in house that is cheaper
c) share room
d) cook simple meals and dun eat out
e) dun fly back during holidays or take cheap flights
f) do part-time (20hours per week if your visa allows)
g) dun cheong, dun smoke pot, dun party, dun treat frens, be very very giam siap
h) do summer course to shorten duration in aus
i) use the school's internet connection/facilities for everything
quite a few of my frens r like dat in uni and they spend a lot less then me. their weekly expenses is something like this:
Rent : 70
transport: 15
Grocery (they dun eat out): 60
phone: 20
eletricity/gas: 20 (cost per person. shared with housemate)
Amt per mth : 800 (estimate)
Expenses per year: AUD10K per year (estimate with cost of books included)
it depends on idividual la. if u r the kind can can be giap then u spend less. if u r the kind tat must die die have macdonalds, chinese resturant then spend more loh. -
the amt u spend is relative to the lifestyle u wanna lead there...

1) Loan from bank. ask them wat is the proceedure. if i did not remember wrongly, it's 2X your guarantor monthly salary.
if money is problem and u still wan to go australia to study, work first, save up then u can go. my house mate did it, so did my other frens.
2) going to australia is not a sure-win-easy-degree path. while it may be truth life is easier but u can't expect to pass if u dun do your projects and tutorials. -
walao si bei jialat, 2 yrs spend 70k already.
like that can forgo the hope of going overseas already. I hate scrimping in fact, like everything have to press calculator before deciding can buy or not.
n also I dun think i have the capability to finish repaying the loan anywhere in 5 years. The interests alone will finish me before i can finish the loan repayment. -

already say it is possible to spend only 10K per year.
i spend a lot because of the lifestyle i choose to lead (i eat out, spend tons on phone, holidays come back to sg, even paid my ex's grocery bill) -
be prepared to spend at least 100k-150k for an education overseas (depending on the course)

Sell your 5 room flat and downgrade to a 3 room one, should get you at least 150K to tide you over with leftovers.

the correct mentality is- if u wana spend this kind of money, then spend it wisely- work extra hard so that ur parents will find that this investment is not wasted.
