It is not only singaporeans who think that the crime rate in JB is especially high and violent.
You are grossly wrong to compare Geylang and Malaysia. Singapore's geylang, i must say, even though notorious, is far safer than Johor Baru.
I have been living in and out with police and secret societies members and I know everything in and out.
I am sorry to tell u that some SS members in Singapore dont even dare to go into JB. Why? Cos singapore SS members carry parangs at most.. JB robbers carry GUNs.

I don't think crime rate in JB is exception high... please take a look at the newspaper and u can know. example is the recent violence happen in geylang.
Media is good and is powerful. I think is good for the media to highlight these out. But please do take note there are a lot of things happen that is not shown to the public.
And Is not really have to be bruce lee or jackie chan.

Quite sometime ago, i saw a post from here mentioned a welt built guy was been threaten in Pudu to pay for some protection money from a fragile middle age guy. AND HE PAY.... and find a lot of reason for his submission and then feeling frustrated and posted here.

NONE of them are identified as responsible for the recent gang-rape cum robberies... the victims said NO. IT wasnt them.

SHAH ALAM: A moneylender abducted from outside his home in Damansara last Sunday was released in Kulai, Johor, on Friday night after a RM5 million ransom was paid.
The ransom was dropped off at an isolated spot in Johor Baru before sunrise, where it was picked up by the four kidnappers.
The 39-year-old man was released at 8.30pm in an isolated location in Kulai.
He flagged down a passing vehicle and was taken to the nearest police station.
The moneylender is being interviewed by police to get more information which could lead investigators to the suspects.
Selangor CID chief SAC II Tajuddin Md Isa declined to elaborate as operations were ongoing.
On June 10, the victim did not notice a car tailing his vehicle until he was near his home.
When he reached his house, he got down from his vehicle and ran towards his gate. However, he was caught before he could make it to safety.
The moneylender was bundled into the kidnappersÂ’ car which then sped off. He was later blindfolded and tied up.
A short while later, the kidnappers contacted the moneylenderÂ’s family and demanded a RM6 million ransom. Negotiations saw the amount being reduced to RM5 million.
This is the second reported kidnap case in two months in Selangor. The first involved the abduction of a property developer who was later released after a ransom of RM500,000 was paid.
The ransom paid for the safe release of the moneylender is one of the highest in recent years.
Some other cases where the ransom paid exceeded RM1 million were:
• 1984: Philanthropist Datuk Kuek Ho Yau was kidnapped and released after a ransom of RM4 million was paid;
• August, 1992: Two people were kidnapped by a group of men. Their release was secured when their families paid RM2 million and RM500,000;
• September, 1998: The son of former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib was released by his kidnappers after a ransom of RM3 million was paid;
• September, 2000: The alleged "king of illegal gaming machines" was kidnapped by a group and a ransom of RM5 million reportedly paid for his release;
• January, 2001: The teenage son of a department store magnate was released after a reported RM1.5 million ransom was paid;
• September, 2002: Toh Ching Ming, 5, was released after a RM3 million ransom was dropped off; and,
• February, 2005: A businessman with alleged underworld links was held captive for almost three days until RM1.5 million was paid for his release. -

Well, I am familiar with Jeet Kune Do (JKD, aka Bruce Lee's art). I actually won't take 3 steps back if I am sure there will be trouble.. Taking 3 steps back is giving the robber more strategic space to move. Sounds complicated, but it's not if you think carefully.
If you know that trouble is unavoidable I suggest attacking first. Lunge at the fella and wack him. Even if he has a knife, he will be startled enough for you to do some damage. You will get hurt. He will probalby stab and slash at you.
But if you take 3 steps back, you have given him a longer reach. A man with a knife has a longer reach than a man without a knife. The knife is like an extension of his hand. If you lunge at him, at least some of the advatages of the knife such as longer reach will be neutralized.

definitely if with knife we have to be very calm. to play safe we can give the robber our money but not life. try to give him but not letting him come near you because u cannot protect urself already once he within the range that he can hurt u. Best of all maintain a distance.. he step in 3 steps u back off 3 steps. Look at his whole body.
At this circumstances is hard to advice wat one should do. but main thing is is to stay calm, if u are panick, nervous, ur body is stiff and cannot response well to protect urself.
Remember one thing, u do not need to be a exponent in martial art or wat so ever. just focus hitting the attacker most vulnerable part with all ur strength such as the throat, nose, eye. u must be brutal in ur response to enable the attacker feel the pain.
And best of all, put a stick in ur car, to have u self protected.
And also please stand out to help anyone that in danger. Do not just stand aside and watch. This way we can together to curb the crime.

for me if you let the attacker too near you ,is too hard to response unless as u said u attack him first, but if he really just a person who asking direction, then u maybe beating a wrong guy.
my style was i would keep distance because we can know wat to response as we have a whole view of his body movement, if he taking strike we can then strike immediately. Anyway tat was my style appreciated your sharing as well.

Dun critisize malaysians generally also. singapore is successful nowadys because partly because of huge influx of chinese malaysians brains into singapore. ex CEO of SIA for 30 yrs is malaysian so r a few of the chief justice and many top post people in MNCs and govenment department just as an example.
I just hope singapore will take over johor or maybe malaysia and weed out those racist as$holes(u know who) that indirectly contributed to the level of crime coz of incompetet management. -

And, there's e 2nd Gang-raped case, which happened to a 35 yr old women.
Aiks, somehow, i find the police capable of doing things, but they're just too hopelessly lazy.
The guys who got caught had a 14 yr old girl with them too eh~? She got arrested too
