to be selfish or helpful?

sometimes i see videos and news that encourage us to help poor and dying.
but most people do recognise that selfish is our nature. so should we help or not those dying and sick? Personally, i prefer to be selfish and do my own thing. i would say that selfish is right thing to be, though people may disagree. -
i will give thm money if i'm rich..
but when i'm rich, i dont have this kind of thinking. -

You know you cant afford to help everyone. There are simply too many people who need help.
What you can do is try to help as much ple as possible.
But of course, know to help at the right time, right situation. What're the dos and donts

helpful as in donate to charity?
or just be helpful as in
see someone holding alot of things no hand to press button in lift you ask him/her which floor want to go and press for him/her?
Old lady drop something on the floor you pick up and give her bcos it's hard for her to bend down or squat down?
Someone car no fuel cant move park on road side ask for help, you fetch him to nearby to buy petrol?
things like i mentioned above, that is like "i do a little bit and wont lose anything" to help "someone really needed the little bit of help" case, i would do it.
For charity, NKF also cant believe in, which charity organization should i donate to?? And i am not very rich (yet), if i am, i would donate more too. So until i am rich, i might be selfish on money.
