Singh Riders

Just wondering, sometimes u see Singh riders wearing turban and riding bike on the road, how come they no need to wear helmets? Is religion a valid enough excuse? But i see Malay girls wearing tudung with helmets riding bikes also. So y are Singhs exemtped from the law? Any bros or sis can enlighten?

I nv see singh ride bike before.. either drive car or take public transport only..

I was wondering about something else along similar lines as well ...
there are quite a few sikh pilots in the Indian airforce apparently ... (and a couple of heros from the indian-pakistani war ) ...
but ... do they wear a turban up there ? ...
... I mean, you need the oxygen mask connected to the helmet eh .... -
I saw a Singh ride a Harley on ECP recently. He didnt wear a helmet

religion is a sensitive issue in sg. tudung can cause its thin, u can wear a helmet. but singh turban thick, cant take it down. and its a violation of the rules if they take down i think.

so religion overpowers the safety factor? anyway they do remove their turban, otherwise how to wash hair? so y not make remove it when riding? No doubt rules/customs/traditions have a rich history and culture but these are all set by PEOPLE. And when times change, people change, so rules naturally shd change.

I remember a sikh chap during NS ... he insisted on a turban cos he gets to wrap a camo scarf around his head and look garang like rambo while everyone else was wearing jungle hats ... -

the aircrew helmet isn't designed to withstand accident impact. it probably more like your regular army helmet or even softer. plus the aircrew helmet has a headset system inside, so its probably slightly bulkier.
that's just my speculation.
i should ask the aircrew one day. but no more singhs around. -

Because they know they are taking a big risk so they ride very carefully and you rarely see them end up as road kill . -
Maybe somebody could invent a crash-worthy turban made of kevlar or some kind of ballistic fabric? Or maybe a helmet that looks like a turban (with optional clip on visor and stuff)?
