kaypoh-- a Hokkien or Malay word?

I'm currently doing a project on Singlish words,but it seems that I am experiencing a conflict of opinion with regards to the origin of the word kaypoh. Is it originally a Hokkien word or a Malay word?
I have Malay friends saying kaypoh is originally a Malay word which was stolen by the Hokkiens long before our time while my parents gave the opposite story?So who was correct? -

Kaypo - Hockkien
Originated when you refer to a female chicken which always picks food out of their own terrotory.
Also to go with it is, Kay-bo and Kay-kahcui which are all Hoickien.
Satay - Malay word la..
Ku KU Jiao.. - Jiao is bird in hoickken already. You say leh?
if you know real history, old chinese people don't like to learn other languages. So I don't see any way "kaypo" could be "stolen" from malays. -
