  dog usually listen to the tone of your comment. Be firm when you are scolding him (when he did something wrong). You dont have to use a long phrase of words. Just a few simple words, eg. NO!
  
  dont make fun of your dog, eg. trying to scare him or bluff him. whenever he did something rite, u can reward him by "sayang" or give him some treats (provided he is not sensitive to the treats especially shih tzu, prone to skin prob).
  
  if the dog is very difficult to train, is best to bring him to a dog trainer.

  A dog won't listen if you haven't established yourself as the "master". Your pet should always be clear that YOU are the alpha "dog", and not it. You should always be in control. If you aren't, don't let it slide.. don't be afraid to exert your authority (within reason).
  
  When a dog behaves badly, there should always be some form of punishment meted out.. Speak in authoritative booming tones (deep voices commands the most respect in dogs), don't break eye contact... make large, deliberate hand gestures when demanding obedience. But be fair to the dog or it will become confused and/or fearful. When it behaves correctly, reward it.
  
  My dog used to only listen to my brother, and not my mother.. once I moved back to the house, it was very disobedient towards me at 1st, but I persisted with the "alpha female" techniques and now it listens to me. Hope it helps.

  reward and praise your dog.
  but at the same time let them know whose the boss around there. instill certain amount of fear to you in them.
  
  i once broke the cane hitting the floor while scolding my dog.
  then for the next few hours it doesnt dare to look at me in the eyes. and then kept licking my toes and turn its tummy upward to me wanting to patch things up.

  lolx.thanks guys i will tell the owner of the dog ^^ and no CHOCOLATES FOR DOGGGIEs cos i like chocolates they won have a chance to touch that =)

  Use the feather duster and fly swatter.

  i own 2 maltese both quite well trained
  
  take long time to train if u intend to do it yourself
  
  u can go find out wads ur dog fav treats
  feed it a few times till ur dog really love it
  
  then u can start to push its ass down n say SIT wif a deeper tone
  do it a few times till it gets it
  
  let ur dog smell the treat but do not feed it till it gets hte trick done.
  
  if ur dog really really bad temper
  
  then send to dog TRAINING SCHOOl.. which is expensive
  or u can pay professional ppl go ur hse help u train.

  the dogs n cat get a long pretty well... very cool
