I've went over to my friend's place and I saw little pieces of red paper pasted beside each unit's door. Out of curiousity, I asked my friend and he just told me that his neighbour had just passed away. Does anyone know the reason behind this?

i understood the meaning of it when my grandpa died
some houses have "door" gods outside their house. so the red paper is used to cover the god, so as to allow the soul of the dead to enter the house.
The purpose of the door god is to guard the house and prevent spirits from entering the house. -

I thought it was supposed to 'neutralise the bad luck' that the funeral wake may bring to the neighbours. Had one pasted on my door before, but not sure what it does.
