I'd say stop over reacting over such minor issues. why did the teacher say he is lazy? ever thought of that? Ask your child what did he do to deserve such a comment. I dont think any teacher will pass that comment if he has done nothing wrong to piss the teacher off.
besides the teacher teaching "in this crucial year", parents too play a major role in educating YOUR child. Take time off to guide him in his work will be much more constructive than worrying about a comment like "fat and lazy" -
teachers shouldn't say stuff like that to students. the kid should sue for verbal abuse

Its just name calling.
Last time during our time in school, we have to place our hands on the teacher's table. Then the teacher will whack our fingers with the 1m long ruler. Our crime? For being lazy and not completing our homework. Worse kena shouted in the face like nobody business. Stand at the back of the class for 2 hours carrying 10 bags on our hands. etc etc etc.
Don't pamper kids nowadays. They have too much privileges like computers, psp, etc etc etc. Last time, the in thing was brick games.

I started by saying the teacher call one of the student " fat and lazy ", you people got read properly or not .. I am not here to flame or whatever leh .. just want to share some experience .. I think not nice for people to say son die like that la .. .. when I was young, I was caned by the teacher. my mother at that time add on to it by caning me in front of teacher !! teacher was never wrong then .. but today, the students aren't that goondu as we were .. they take it more seriously ... I mean, last time you don't hear student jumping off building or being stress .. now , all these are quite common .. so I feel for the teacher to say to student such remark is uncolth for ..

actually i think teachers are wrong to call students names
the more you call a student stupid and dumb, the more he will become stupid and dumb...
and students no matter how small they are, they are a unique person, and they are not to be insulted...
teachers should be encouraging them, and always speak positively, and see that the students improve...
teachers may be exasperated at times and get angry... but they have no right to insult students... -

teachers in school can only do so much, as parents, we need to take ownership of our children's well-being. they alway see our result in thru the school website, email teachers and attend parents dialogue with school.
Dual income family is common here, tho both my parents are working, we tends to be more independent, take care of ourselves and also understand the hardship of our parents. Thus in repaying, we did our study well. They expect us to take the hardship, learn to take critism as a point of learning and be a social responsible person. -
hmmm, i remember my primary 2 teacher called almost everyone a bloody idiot when they misbehaved...

Then when they failed, you will be one of the people who will get blamed as well...but when they succeed, don't even bother to thank you for guiding them, they will say it is all because they are smart...
I always try to speak positively, but then when I do so, they said I am giving them false hope...

i can understand your worries, but don u think its just a small matter?
As long as the teacher didn't lay a finger on your son or his friends, den it shouldn't be a problem i guess.
years ago while i was in primary 6, my teacher would choke me and my friends, and even occasionally slap us. We didnt dare to made a report or anything.
It was wrong for him to do tad, though it was partly my fault for being a nuinsence in class. But my point is, becos of him, i bucked up and scored well enough for my psle. 228/300 if in not wrong. And i bear no grudges against him now.
Maybe at primary4, its abit harsh to use fat and lazy on the kids. U could maybe have a word or two with the principle? Its kind of degrading and embarrasing.

Imo, i think your worries are unfounded or not called for. Getting upset over such trivial comments will not do any harm to the person. It is time kids grow up the harsh way and stop cushioning or peppering them with nice praises when the work they produced were real crap.
I was once a part time teacher, and i do not mince on my words if i really find the student's work sloppish and terrible. And parents should also stop shielding them whenever their kids are in the wrong. I kind of believe that if you allow an outsider to discipline your kid, although embarressing, the child would remember for life and not make the mistake again. -
