Some of my relatives in Singapore treat their maids with the same respect but then again I cant speak for the rest either.I believe even a Chihuahua would bite off the owner's finger one day if being pushed too far.Originally posted by hloc:I have no maid myself.... but my sister's maid come over to help take care of the children around the house. We make sure that there is at least 2 dishes without pork in them for her to eat..... also, she is allow to eat anything in the house when she is hungry.
But I'm not sure all S'porean employer does this.....![]()
Ya ya, in fact they work harder and care more once we respect them, some also have own family back home. Guess in Singapore, maids have become a symbol of material rather then human, a kind of object to be abuse and to show off.Originally posted by Slipshade:Yes. Respect is very important.
There are some Singaporeans who treats maids as if they are slaves, and treats the maids as if they are a second-grade human. I think that is very sad and unfortunate.
Phew lucky you and your sbilings also dont have to move to Bangladesh.Anyway your story is funny and originalOriginally posted by angel7030:Ya ya, in fact they work harder and care more once we respect them, some also have own family back home. But having say that some maids are also trouble maker. Last time, our maid got pregnant, that caused my Mom to quarrel with my Dad, in the end we found out the baby belong to a bangadeshi man. Phew!, lucky is not dad, or else me and siblings may have to live with divorce parents.
Generally the employer would be thoughtful lah, wont ask her to eat it and provide an alternative.Originally posted by sand king:Can I ask something, what if a Malay maid works in say a Chinese home. And the Chinese employers decide to eat pork. Its ether eat or starve for the maid. Can she still consume pork?
Not meant to be racist. Im just asking.
