  For now, should be around twenty or slightly above twenty. This is after springcleaning of my contact list. I don't keep people who I've forgotten who they are, people I don't know well or don't even chat with. I only keep those who are old friends (even if we no longer chat), people who might msg me now and then, and those I chat with actively.
  
  Otherwise, I see no point in letting those useless contacts clogging up the space, and that I have to scroll up and down so much just to find one or two contacts.

  Nah.. I talk with 50% at least once in a month =) No, I don't spend hours at end chatting with everyone. I do that only with a couple of my friends =)

  Still, there is no point. Why keep contacts that you barely talk to, and most probably do not even remember? Quality is better than quantity.
