why hawkers like to call people 'lao ban'?

Cos "xiao jie" has become a common name to use on...... u know...... that kind of girls.
So in restaurant when u call the waitress, call her "xiao mei" instead of "xiao jie".
In KTV, feel free to ask for some "xiao jie", and in massage center, tell them u want "xiao jie" instead of "ji shi". -
