Spamming in Singnet

anyone out there holding singnet accts. The spamming in the email servers are getting from bad to worse. I have been receiving 40++ spam mails daily. Anyone also the same. I will like to confirm b4 I escalate to singnet..

You mean that you receive email messages with viruses is it? I also got... one day can receive up to 8 such messages.
I reported to singnet. they did not reply. i faxed to them and c.c. one copy to Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore. They still not yet reply. -

have u tried using Singnet's filter?
i know Hotmail's sux... i've filled up their slots for blocked out emails...250... and i still hafta clear my e-mail twice daily around 70 mails each time... i dunno y Singnet dun reply but IDA dun reply coz they treat it as none of their business... -
ya. i was getting a daily dose of 20++ spam mails too.
currently using the filtering function in mycommunicator to block some of the regular spammers.
i too, think singnet should do something abt it. good move, xiaosa. -
Most of the time the mails are not from Singnet itself. Some online website hosts do sell your information obtained from you during sign ups, to these spammers. Nothing is free on this earth.

I used to have this problem with my old account...too many spam mails filling up my email.. ...the simple and straightforward way of solving this is to change your email account(think need to pay like $10..not too sure) with your ISP or even change your ISP if U think U like its competitor's promotions
...and after that....use hotmail accounts for mailing lists and etc....reserve your new email account for people U know personally....so that U can keep the number of junk mail to the minimum...
I say the minimum because occassionally spam still comes in and U dunno if the "unsubscribe" option would simply confirm the existence of ur email account and invite more spam in....lately I have been receiving email attachments that contains virus into my singnet account but the sender is not using singnet as its ISP..... -

spam mails do not come from ISPs and they certainly do not need to be responsible for that....
suppose u register at some gaming site...the gaming site may sell the database to the companies to that the companies can tap on the emails and send u spams/advertisements....
it is YOUR responsibility to make sure ur details are not to be sold or disseminated (most sites do have such policies, or else u could always email the company to verify)
not juz online, sometimes when u fill in surveys or contest forms, the companies can oso sell or share the database with other companies or affiliated organizations...
some websites trap ur cookie....so they know which sites u visit...deduce wat things u are interested in....this oso renders u to be potential target for ads/spams...
some ISPs do offer filtering services....but do not take that for granted that it is the ISP's responsibility to be clearing ur mailbox...ultimately, it is YOU who is responsible for where u leave ur particulars...... -

That's not my case. I only got my Singnet Acct activated on Sept 6 after I received my broadband modem from Singpost. The first thing I received are spam mails in my first login. I believe Singnet had been selling email addresses.Originally posted by FireIce:desert fox is right....

Take my pacnet email. I had it for 2 yrs liao. Also no spam mail wat.

yeah, there's definitely something wrong with singnet broadband e-mail. I keep receiving at least 3 mails with virus whenever I open my Outlook Express 6...lucky I suscribe to the e-mail virus scanning by singnet. Do that if you don't want to be infected by viruses or you can always be a cheapskate and check your mail from My Communicator..your call

i have been using singnet for abt 3yrs already. however, it is only recently abt a month ago that i have been receiving junk mail and yes some contain virus........my bf is also having the same problem....dunno whether it is singnet problem......well now i dun anyhow give email address to anyone.....i even resort to not showing my email address in ICQ.

me also have same problems a few months back, but get better after install new anti-virus. but yet still receive same unwanted mail once a few days.

Already got people complain to SingNet and write to Straits Times forum somewhere in dunno June or July this year. Don't think Singnet had taken any action. Only way is to use the filtering system to filter all unwanted mails.
