Should Singapore have its official Thanksgiving holiday?

  We rarely take out the time to formally thank someone for what they've done, do we? Hell, it can be another public holiday and an alumni, family or friends gathering can't it. Thanking each other across the table, eating some fried pigeon, wouldn't it be great?

  and this is not a christian or western country, so why should we have thanksgiving as a public holiday , you should be thankful, that chirstmas is already a public holiday

  each religion or ethnic group have allocated their share of public holidays

  thanksgiving is a holiday to celebrate the giving thanks of the pilgrims to the native americans for helping them to survive the winter and giving them a bountiful harvest....

  Lol. You realise I include a lot of puns in this Chit Chat forum. Of course I know about turkey as a sacrifice (main dish)! Pigeons came up to me as it's abundant in our country, meh. Turn your head around and you see one silly bird standing on your window sill. Sometimes they even do some kissing shows in front of you. Singapore doesn't have to copy every single thing that's abroad. We do not need to follow the traditions of another country to thank the people around us do we? We do not hide eggs on an Easter Day right?
  
  Yes. Thanksgiving. Just what an average Singaporean need. (*A public holiday.* We are amazing. Quite a stressful society with a record breaking statistic: Singaporeans walk the fastest.)

  Actually, holidays came holy days. In ancient times, the major pre-occupations aside from wars were religious rites, rituals & ceremonies. So holy days were declared so that people can spend time and money to worship, to make sacrifices to gods and to ask for blessings (to make more money)! It was in the interest of religious organisations to have such holy days.
  
  Fast forward to modern times, holidays are days for break from work, time for merriment and indulgence. Singapore Pools believe in holidays too.
