  Remember that it took 2 (two not one) A-bombs to bring them to surrender. Technically, they surrendered but in actual fact, they never. The Imperial Emperor should have been executed! So, the visit to the Shrine is not just to pay respect but actually to pray that the war criminals would be reborn to lead another war - this time against the US. So much for Zen Buddhism!
