Air Stewardess on the SIA plane. I have these couple of frens who are ok lah not bad looking... and chio they go sign up as SIA girl leh... and got it. Is that really the Singaporean girls dream? -

Recently SIA's trend is 2 hire foreigners to fill the positions... -
last time yes, i think the dream is to:
a. being able to fly around for free - a good way to spend a few years before settling down in a more proper job
b. being selected as a stewardess means you are of certain "qualities" being in terms of looks - so in a way, you are being "envied" and having SIA in your resume is good.
c. chance of landing a rich PPS / young & dashing PPS / pilot / hunk you met overseas
But now, sorry, the dream is no more because:
a. more airlines are recruiting - companies like Emirates & Gulf are paying more
b. more higher paying jobs elsewhere - also with flying sometimes
c. no more wanting to be "high class" waitress. Waitress need only serve probably in fixed hours - a stewardess have to serve 10 hours or more for long flights and you have put up with irrating, rude or demanding passengers
d. more FTs are around, so the chances of landing a dashing FT is higher
e. the image of Singapore Girl is not as glamorous anymore. Hence some SIA stewardess makes you wonder why they are there in the first place - they cannot speak proper english or their service is lousy. -

in terms of service, not many SG girls have service attitude.
Now lots of young people, have maids to serve them or that their mommies had been their maids ...
I find better service on Cathay and they do not just treat Ang Moh better like SIA does. I get scolded by SIA girls because the PRC I sit with squeeze me into the window corner and I accidentally press on the button. I feel totally unjustified. -
