I'm not sure what is their shortest 'time to market' .. but if you are an anime fan, can you wait for odex to finish subbing, one round of QA and then going through censorship?
I don't think fansub will disappear even if odex comes out with 'master-grade' subtitles. And with people discussing the latest episode of your favourite anime online, you will be tempted again to download from fansubs. Even though you dutifully delete them after 24 hours.
How odex can provide value is to come out with quality boxsets in shops.

the lack of quality in product marketing and packaging sounds like something you might find in the PRC.Originally posted by Rustyhong:If odex can come out with "master grade" sub, i am sure ppl will buy it.
Like alot ppl will buy their DVD/VCD even though they downloaded and watched those provided by fansub. Why? Its because of the casing, the picture on the cd/dvd.And of coz the subbing is great (assuming of subbing). It nicely done up which will be a collection of lifetime.
Like i myself bought their product a few years back but like what everyone is saying, subbing problem.
Fansub is bring odex business. They will learn it the hard way.
No surprise leh... Right at the top of Odex got links to PRC leh. LOL!Originally posted by LazerLordz:the lack of quality in product marketing and packaging sounds like something you might find in the PRC.
Actually why must match it?Originally posted by Shotgun:Fansubs don't take so long to come out with their releases, and are of good quality. YET THEY ARE UNPAID. If Odex wants people to PAY for their products, they have to match it!

Local anime fans berate Odex's voice-overs
Mr Edward Choy, 28, frequently bursts into loud sobs and peals of laughter.
It is all in a day's work at the studio for the actor, who had voiced at least 15 anime (Japanese animation) characters for local anime distributor Odex.
But he is now caught in tn Internet firestorm.
Anime fans on the Internet say that poor voice-overs in Odex's products is one of the reasons they turn to illegal downloads of anime.

If I remember correctly, I do not think there was anyone complaining about the voice-overs being inferior, rather it was the lousy subtitling and long delay in releasing the anime. 154th media, cant expect much anyway.[/b]
Odex said that it would donate any excess compensation to charities. My question to it: Why can't Odex be charitable to those families with mitigating reasons and let them off with a stern warning?.They are getting more bullsh1t. Trying to use charity to cover their sin.
The funny part was that Sing said he'd be HIRING an INDEPENDENT auditor to audit that they got no profits.Originally posted by Rustyhong:They are getting more bullsh1t. Trying to use charity to cover their sin.
Anime fans today DON'T WANT to wait months for a VCD/DVD to be released with crappy subtitling. They want their fix of their fav anime as soon as its out.I agree! The movies industry have learnt this the hard way in order to beat pirates. I used to get pirated movies... until they finally could release those movies on VCD/DVD within days/weeks after it's on the big screen.
As long as it's legal, it has to go through the censorship somehow, therefore delaying the release.Originally posted by Icemoon:The point is, fansub will always be faster than any commercially-released sub.

Nah, they will never do it. It's just human nature...Originally posted by Icemoon:Actually why must match it?
If you can't beat them, join them!
I mean Odex should just work with the fansubbers.![]()
Auditors are usually independent. If his usual auditor can't even convince the public, others won't get a big fat chance.Originally posted by Shotgun:The funny part was that Sing said he'd be HIRING an INDEPENDENT auditor to audit that they got no profits.
When u hire someone, he's in your employment, hence no longer independent!
i hate dubbing except for some chinese dubOriginally posted by Shotgun:Just subtitles please. Voice-overs aren't totally necessary for most of us anime fans.

some dubbing is actually quite good, e.g. one piece that's showing on ch56 before (if im nt wrong they're from TW or HK.). there's a obvious quality difference between those and others dubbed by china or wadever chinese.Originally posted by duotiga83:i hate dubbing except for some chinese dubSUBS PLS

but when the dub comes with sucky subs from odex, non-chinese anime community can't enjoy the anime in singapore. (assuming when there is no fansub available for d/l.)
You watched that. I thought only kids would watch. It did appeal to kids. I think it sort of reveals my age.Originally posted by CoolMyth:Some "chinese" anime theme songs are good as well.
Remember the "Yu Chou Xiao Mao Qiu" song?![]()
