locals wun go far in this industryOn the contrary, the locals are very much welcome to get into R&D. Oepn up any recruit section and you will find R&D jobs that specificcaly look for Singaporeans, and i can assure you these are not "washing test tubes" job!!!
cos all hire FT to head the projects
locals are assistants, wash test tubes one
Starting pay for a degree holder in R&D is roughly how much? There was this news report a few months ago that said that the starting pay for a first class Bach degree holder would be $3300.0. From what i know, yes its pretty accurate.
good luck in it. U'll need a PhD. The govt is giving funds for the proj, but not for your salary. For me, i'd rather work in hospital, although it's routine work, but at least i've my own free time.Well, it depends on what "level" you are aiming at. If you are aiming at leading a research project or a research team or even lecturing you definetely need a Phd. But to "get into" the R&D field you dont need one. With a bach degree you can try for positions such as research assistants or even research engineers.
Thanks fox_hound_33 for giving us the information. Very HappyNo problem.
By the way, I thought bach degree holder can only get the position of research officer?
What do you think of getting a degree in Master of science?
Thanks again for your input.Originally posted by fox_hound_33:Masters got two types, Master of science (Msc) and Master of Engineering (MEng). Both can be done part-time or full-time. If you are looking for a career in R&D i suggest you take up M.Eng. Why? Simple...Msc is more like a course work where you primarily study modules and sit for exams. Project work is limited in Msc. On the other hand in MEng you primarily do a project (Research oriented), the project can go on for atleast a year and a half. In MEng you just need to study 4 modules thats all.
So Msc or MEng depends on what you actually intend to do after completing your masters.
Very true what you are saying!Originally posted by ispyyy:Government pumping alot of money in it but still no significant result out leh...
lol
What will be the various different career paths if I choose Msc or MEng?Msc is highly generic in nature, meaning its suitable for a variety of careers. Say, in the manufacturing industry, heavy industries like oil & gas, shipping, semicon, pharm etc etc.
how true.Originally posted by FireIce:locals wun go far in this industry

Hey I was thinking if I go into the R&D sector for a few years, will I have difficulty finding a job later since I have the impression that there won't be much relevant experience gained for other industry?Yes, thats pretty much correct. I just spoke to a friend who's trying to get into the industry after being in R&D for about a year and a half. He says people from R&D are at a disadvantage.
Need advice.
