I have a question

Why some laws seem to interfere personal space....seem like personal well-being issues...
Such as...have to wear seat belt.....or helmet for motorists....
If I dont wear seat belt....and accident happen, its my own lost, right? But why is there a regulation that I can be punished if I dont wear seat belt.....it is my own individual issue, it wont be a loss or a benefit to anyone else whether I wear seat belt or not, its my own choice...
Also a few other laws....such as narcotics law.....I can be punished if I am a narcotics user......I understand the rationale for punishment if I am a dealer/ seller, because I harm other people, but why is there a law punishing individuals who use it on their own....
I hope u get what I mean.....maybe if u know the theory, u can explain to me....thank you.

like if u commit suicide its against the law. same thing. govnt dunwan to waste resources.

The only resources Singapore have is human resources lor...
So, the government discourage their citizens to harm themself...
Anyway, it is yr life wat.. u still can drive without seatbelt and ride without helmet...
U just have to pay fine if caught lor... tat is a kind of discouragement wat... the penalty is not heavy like ban u from driving, sent u to jail or blah... -

Oh well, I think apart from protecting you from getting harm or killed, it's a way to protect others too.
Say, after your accident, you become quadraphlegic.... have you thought of who is going to look after you? You'll be costing your family and others the time/resources/money to look after you 24/7 for the rest of your life. -

As for the argument that the invasion of private rights are for the benefit of the State, it is most clearly seen in the criminal offence of assualt. It used to be that if both parties consented to the fight, neither would be criminally liable. However, the State stepped in with the reasoning that maiming a person would deprive the King of a capable person in defence of the Crown.
Also, the criminalzing of certain behaviour, such as sexual acts and euthanasia is seen to be a way of protecting the moral fabric of society. It serves to protect the young and easily influenced from acts that are deemed to be in conflict with commonly held moral values. -

I have the answer.
You may be an individual with rights. But you live in a society. If you don't wear seat belt or you take drugs, society doesn't care a damn if you die. The problem is the problems you created whether you die or don't die. It could be your family will suffer or society has to pay to fix you up. I don't want my hard-earned money (taxes, levies, GST) to go to help your family or to fix you up in a hospital or rehabilitation centre.
So if you want to do the things you want to do, please do it elsewhere and spare your family and us Singaporeans. Your death doesn't mean anything to us. Its the living who has to bear the burden.
