local dramas not dramatic enough...storyline is usually about 'zhi ma lu dou' predictable stuff. i prefer hk dramas...

Agree to some extent. Some HK dramas are definintely better than SG dramas. The recently ended To catch the uncatchables was one good drama!! Wonder if there will be a part 2 huh?

local drama.... shou zu and bao bei fu nu bing (just to name a few) are damn damn er xin!!! -

All i can say is mediacorp shows USED to be good.
Seriously,the shows nowadays all wat love stories only.No substance.
The dramas on mediacorp used to be so damn good.Unbeatables 1 and 2..price of peace..tofu street..Haka family..golden pillow..yang guang lie che..wow..in fact ALL of mediacorp shows were good and memorable.
Their acting was top notch,they had great theme songs as well.
Now..its just painful to watch their shows.The last great show they had on air was "Holland village"- which had the ingredients of a great show.Superb acting..great storyline..and a memorable theme song.
Funny that a month ago..they had this advert of "25 years of dramas"-along with the backdrop of all the current and new actors like fiona xie and bai wei xiu.Frankly ..if u think of memorable dramas of the last 25 years,u wont think of all these actors/actress.They have not created any impression on us.
I say bring back all the old timers of the past 25 years!They are the real deal.
Anyone knows how i can get my hands on old mediacorp serials?I remember got this show of a group of people going to china and opening a bar or something.The theme song was fantastic.If anyone has any info pls post or pm me.thx! -

Don't local production teams feel ashamed of themselves for not improving???
Don't know why, but even though HK scripts are almost always similar(guy/girl's other half cheat on him/her, guy/girl whine 1 or 2 episodes, then strive to be sucessful etc), it still beats Channel 8 hands down. 1 reason I guess is due to the fact that TVB always rotates among its vast array of artistes for leading roles.
Channel 8 seems to like 2 force down the same few faces on us when its obvious that some of them are not ready for the big time. To know who I am referring to, just refer to the covers of I-Weekly or 8 Days, especially the last 2 months or so. Some of them like to act cute, some tend to exaggerate their expressions and worst, some can't even act, but yet continue 2 be in leading roles because of a dearth of talents. IMO, up to today, only the established stars like Zoe Tay, Lee Nanxing, Tay Ping Hui are rather convincing. For the young stars, I only think Rui En can act well. That's different from TVB where its newer crop of actors/actresses are rather convincing in their protrayal of roles.
I doubt anything can make me turn back to Channel 8 nowadays, not even their so-called mega productions. I would rather watch rehashed scripts than to waste my time on watching Mediacorp Channels. -
hk drama serials have more depth and are more character-driven. acting is better. plots are better. actors and actresses are better, pretty, more scandals.
local drama serials always revolve around families one lah. so boring one. not creative and innovative. -
