I intend to work with the prison service too after I get a degree....
My friend now is a HASE. She work irregular hours. Sometimes till late night. OT i guess. But she is loving it.
She got to frequent sub courts, drc and prisons to interview inmates and stuff....
Well, clearly you must have passion...and dedication... -
Cus i got a colleague who was from the prisons service. He says that prisons is not a good place to work, and it is meant to be that way as a punishment for the convicts. Officers recieve a 'hardship' allowance every mth on top of their salary. Therefore, most officers hope to get transfered to other departmnents within the Ministry of Home Affairs after a few yrs..

remember to save up....and u must be sure to make it a lifetime career. else ur service will not be considered in the private sector

There are other jobs like Home Affairs Senior Executives you know...? Whose job scopes varies... -
i am keeping my options open, including career in the private sector.
If I am not mistaken I tink senior execs job shud be more admin based. If i want to joint he prison's service, I want to work closely with the inmates. -

Its no doubt they pay well, but working in such an environment may not be healthy for the mind in the long term.
