  i didnt know that until i did a quick search for singapore articles in reuters.

  we're getting lesser and lesser heritage preserved now. i wonder if at my son/grandson's era, will they be able to see any of it...

  but its our history!!! they're trying to use development as an excuse to wipe off the history? even the last kampoong is forced to move into HDBs now. soon kelongs will be gone, ubin will be a fully industrialized quarry and we have nowhere other than concrete jungle to go.

  Conservation is costly. Not every owner is willing to bear the cost. Think Butterfly House, the recent case that was in the spotlight.
  
  Besides, even the National Library at Stamford Road has been demolished. Mind the social value of that building! Compared to the Library, what's a few heritage bungalows?

  The point here is singapore dont have enough land. Soon even lim chu kang will become a housing estate.

  Some people just dont get it. Conservation of heritage buildings in Singapore is very costly. We simply dont have enough land to "waste". If you were in China or any huge country, you can even find landmarks left over by previous civilisations hundreds and thousands of years ago. They dont have to remove these landmarks because there is simply no need to.
