NDP funpack so popular; owners reluctant to enter design competitionSINGAPORE: This yearÂ’s National Day funpack bags are so popular that those who have them are reluctant to take part in a design competition, which calls for them to give up one of the panels.
The public is encouraged to put their thoughts and feelings about Singapore on the white strips that come with the zip—up panelled bags, and the best 500 strips will be put together to form one large bag that will go on display in VivoCity in December.
An additional white panel was included in each of the 150,000 assembly bags given out at this yearÂ’s National Day Parade, but so far only 1,000 have been returned.
DesignSingapore Council project manager Elaine Khoo said, "Because the white strips extend, make the bag bigger, so people have been keeping it. So we are trying to tell Singaporeans and all those who have got the funpack out there, Â’Hey donÂ’t hang onto that one strip, you could actually do something exciting with it and be part of this big bag.Â’"
And students at Katong School are doing just that — expressing what Singapore means to them through their art panels.
"To be responsible citizens of the country there should be an element of patriotism, so National Day and all that is involved such as this competition, is certainly an avenue for them in this direction," said Dr Francis Chen, vice—president of the Association for Persons with Special Needs.
Those who enter stand to win cash prizes of up to S$1,000.
