Private Studies - a worthy pursuit, or just a red herring?

I'm quite the n00b when it comes to affairs like this, so if anyone can help, thanks alot eh?
anyway, even though I ORD in like 22 month's time, i would like to seek the opinion of those who think they can contribute. Do you guys think [ assuming we talk about the same diploma ] that those private diplomas [ such as those from MDIS, for example ] have the power to be able to compete with their counterpart s from the polytechnics?
And one more thing - I heard a lot of stuff about companies today value the papers from polytechnics more then their private counterparts, is it true?

private diploma...even if U can get a job with ur private diploma...the starting pay(at least) will be lower compared with a poly diploma.The shorter time period for most private diplomas doesnt help in its credibility either.
maybe an exception to that would be art/design-related diplomas...cos its either U have the talent or U dont...a portfolio would be better than a diploma in that case. -
