Go Sec 5 better, all the resources are available.Originally posted by skeletonsAREcute:Hey guys, along with a few friends of mine, we intend to drop sec 5 and opt for private O levels. At the same time, we'd be either working or studying in ITE, or even both. We've all decided that this is the best route that's suitable for us.
One thing, we're unsure about the cost of our papers and also some other stuffs.
Any experienced ones can help?
These are the following subjects that we're taking:
- English Language (Oral)
- Chinese (Oral)
- Chinese Paper 1 & 2 (Written)
- Chinese Listening Compre (Written)
- Combined Humanities (Social Studies) (Written)
- English language Paper 1 & 2 (Written)
- Combined Humanities (Geography Elective) (Written)
- Combined Humanities (History) (Written)
- Mathematics(E) Paper 1 & 2 (Written)
- Science (Physics/Chemistry) Paper 1 & 2 (Total 4 papers) (Written)

What are the possible ways of signing up private O levels?

Where do we take our oral?
Anything else we should know?
Please kindly assist~~ Thank you~
I can't find the cost for the papers...Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Go Sec 5 better, all the resources are available.
Possible ways to sign up - look up for news. They are published yearly. Usually during the announcement of O and N levels results.
By phone, by website, through your school are 3 ways.
Cost - See SEAB webbie.
Where to take oral and the papers - you will be informed through mail or check the SEAB webbie. You need to log in to find out.
Go SEAB for more info.

Fee for local subject? Which are the local subjects?Originally posted by Darkness_hacker99:Add fee for local subject: $30
Please Note IMPORTANT:
For Practical
If you didn't take practical at O level Science at sec5, you cannot register for Private O level Science subject.
If want to take Practical at O level as a science subject, you must have taken the Practical paper before OR you are in a private institution which is conducting practicals.
It's a MUST to take practical. There are several private institutions which you can sign up and practise your practicals. ST Classified Ads list them. Under Education section.Originally posted by skeletonsAREcute:Fee for local subject? Which are the local subjects?
Is it a MUST to take science practical? Hmm, is there anyway we can sign up for practical as private candidate and then be posted to a school to conduct the practical?
I havent met anyone who took D&T as private candidate...because there is no way they can get a workshop to work on.Some private schools have labs...but neber heard of them having workshop.Originally posted by skeletonsAREcute:Hey guys, along with a few friends of mine, we intend to drop sec 5 and opt for private O levels. Those private institutions provide a channel for private student to hone their practical skills.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:It's a MUST to take practical. Wah, that's extremely troublesome! I've to think about it le...Originally posted by Darkness_hacker99:Local subjects are like Chinese and combined humanities.
Yes. Even if you take the written papers and did not take the Science Practical, it will be reflected as absent in the certificate.
Well, practical exams ARE conducted in the school that you're posted to.
But the thing is, you'll need a private school to teach you practical lesson. It's the safety reasons you know? MOE doesn't let people who doesn't have practical to risk lives of other people.
Well just like mayi jie have said, School's have much more resources. And also it's govt subsidize, which means it's a lot more cheaper.Originally posted by skeletonsAREcute:Wah, that's extremely troublesome! I've to think about it le...

I think O Levels fees are the same? Only that you pay extra for some other things like practicals and other resources required.Originally posted by Darkness_hacker99:Well just like mayi jie have said, School's have much more resources. Can you tell us why is it not that easy? Any obstacles or hardship to share? So at least my friends can be prepared...Originally posted by dahliamorie:Doing both ITE and studying for O levels is NOT easy. I'm doing that now.
I'm taking EL, EMaths and Humanties, more den $200.
You won't get the subsidized rate school students get.
I'm a Biz Admin student. I have 3 modules (Accounting Fundamental, Business Fundamental, Office Applications) to handle each semester and there are test like every now and then. If you are treating ITE as your backup plan if you screw up at O levels, then you have to make sure that you maintain your GPA at >3.5 in order to get into Poly after you finish ITE.Originally posted by skeletonsAREcute:Can you tell us why is it not that easy?
