If you have to, i think keeping the turtle in a little bit of tap water is much less damaging to it than keeping it in water with kitchen salt dissolved in it. Anyway as for your question on what to feed the turtle, try defrosted and shelled prawn meat, the type that we eat. I don't think it'll eat veggies... it's a turtle, not a terrapin!
