Why must choose one? Why not both?
Some cards are more widely accepted than others in certain places but not all.....
While Visa seems most widely accepted, it seems that this is not the case in Malaysia which seems to prefer the Master......

If you are going to get 2 cards, I would suggest you get one from Citibank/Standard Chartered and another one from any bank of your choice.
The problem with local banks is that you can't use it to buy from certain sites online and sometimes I have problems using it in the USA as well
My Citibank card never give me any problems before -

Me dun hv enuf earning to apply, only can apply for POSB nets, but it is the best, save and never in debts.

Citibank is the world recognised bank but not standard Chart...
Citibank/HSBC will be better! -

Stan Chart is a foreign bank. In fact, it is the 2nd oldest bank in Singapore. But it is a foreign bank. It is a london based bank.
Anyway I have cards from UOB, HSBC, DBS, ABN and I find UOB the best in dining privileges......i never wanted a card from Stan Chart and esp Citibank due to some personal feud with them hahaha.....
As for Visa and Masters, Amex is more exclusive as the salary requirement is higher....I have the DBS Black Amex card, its pretty good for shopping and fine dining, they have quite good deals on that. Visa is of cos very widely accepted, you can never go wrong with Visa hehehe.... Masters so far i find it only useful during the travel fairs, normally they are the card with good deals hehe....
