So how can it be in HD? There was only the normal DVD that time and not HD DVd -

HD DVD is 250GB....few hundred times bigger....HD graphic is crystal clear....like cinema...

the movie was originally shot on FILM for the theatre.
you can take any FILM and make it HD and it will be true HD unless there are scratches or decolorisation or wear and tear due to AGE of the film.
CONVENTIONAL FILM is different from DIGITAL as film is a continuous material, not made up of dots like digital images and thus can be converted to HD anytime.
if they say the movie is true HD shld be converted to HD from film not from DVD.
however the other possibility is that the movie was upsampled/upscaled to HD from SD.
anyway regardless of whichever, HD5 is widescreen, 5 is 4:3 so there will still be a diff..
er i dunno how to explain la.. hope u understand.. it's a lot of info so maybe you can google or wiki about film production techniques, difference between conventional film and digital etc.

BUt HD digital TV came out few yrs ago only. -
the movie required you not to suspend belief for just a while... it required you to torture it to death, murder it and then put it through a blender and then flush it down the toilet

let's put it in another example..
example TV is black n white until 2007 then become colour but CINEMA already colour movies from 1990.
from 1990 to 2007 every movie they play in cinema is colour but on tv u can onli see black n white
now in 2007 i take a 1995 movie from the cinema play on TV tell u to choose either u got money got colour tv watch COLOUR-5 or no money no colour tv continue watch BW-5
then you go forum post 1990 - 2007 no colour tv where they get colour movie from -.- -

Generally most of the programs are NOT HD except for a selected few. Currently about less than 20% of primetime shows simulcast on HD5 is HD, the rest is SD (Standard Def) and some movies are HD as well but MediaCorpse has claimed that they are working to increase the amount of HD programs on HD5 to 50% of primetime shows.
HD5 signals are FREE and ALREADY BROADCASTING. However, to receive the signals, you have to have a HD Set Top Box / Decoder as well as a HDTV (Preferably FULL HD) and connect them up using HDMI/DVI-D
You can get a HD Set Top Box in three ways.
1) Sign up for StarHub HD Cable. If you are a current subscriber, you will have to pay for the replacement HD Set Top Box and they will take back the Digital/Analog Set Top Box you already have and install the HD one. You will then receive HD5 (technically free but you have to pay for the set top box). You can also subscribe to National Geographic etc. in HD.
2) SingTel Mio TV comes with a HD set top box regardless of whether you like it or not and thus HD5 is incorporated as one of the free channels on Mio TV. However, I strongly suggest you do NOT sign up for Mio TV because it sucks in my opinion but that's a different thread altogether.
3) During the original HD5 trial, MediaCorp rented out HD set top boxes for the trial participants to receive the HD5 signal. This box/tuner/decoder doesn't do anything else I think. No idea how to get this box. -

U need to be near Bukit Batok to recieve the signal.
So far the HD shows are CSI,Life Story and the thursday HD movies.1080i and 5.1 Dolby Surround
By nov 11,Heroes will be broadcasted HD.
