public universities have to provide for the new batch of school leavers too. as a result, they are unable to accept many of this kind of "late bloomers."

May i ask what do u mean by 2nd chance universities?? There is no SUCH thing in the world known as 2nd chance universities!! MDIS, James Cook and other institution providing courses from these schools are the same as attending the university itself!!! Are u saying that these people are 2nd chanced students? A student attending the NUS, NTU or SMU can fail their courses and repeat again... and if they r allowed to repeat, then r they considered to be 2nd chance uni as well???

The rest , it is not that well known for. But the marine biology degree in JCU is better known amongst marine scientists than the degrees of the Go8 universities
