Financial planners/advisors/consultants etc are just high-class terms for what was formerly and generally known as "Insurance agents". Sounds more familiar now right?

Because of the implementation of the FAA (Financial Advisory Act), Insurance agents are now required by law to take the Financial Advisory competency modules and exams, to deem them as qualified personnel to dispense financial advisory services.
An "upgrade" from the compulsory tests thus leading to a "upgrade" of their job title to sound more high-class.
