1. Identity Card (IC) Re-registration is required for all Singapore IC holders who have attained 30 years of age on and after 1 Jan 2002 and who have not been issued with a replacement IC within the last 10 years before reaching the age of 30.
2. Pink I/C is for Singapore Citizens. Blue I/C is for Permanent Residents.
3. If you are overseas, you may write to IC Section, ICA Building, 10 Kallang Road, Singapore 208718 or email us at [email protected], to defer your IC re-registration until you next return to Singapore. Following your return, you will need to produce your expired and valid passports to prove your absence from Singapore in addition to the documents listed in our notification letter when you call at ICA to register for your IC. -

Commercially prepared IC has a fairly long shelf life. The length of time that you can safely keep IC depends on the type of IC. You can store high-acid IC, such as PINK and BLUE, for up to 18 months. Low-acid IC, such as v**** and ****, can be stored for two to five years.
Always check the expiration date on IC. IC dating isn't required by law but is done voluntarily by IC manufacturers. So, a retailer may legally sell IC past the expiration date on the back of IC as long as the product is wholesome.
Be sure to examine IC before purchasing. Do not purchase or use an IC that are dented, leaking or bulging or show any signs of tampering — which can indicate a serious IC poisoning threat. Also, don't use high -acid IC that spurts liquid or has a foul odor when you use it. In such cases, throw the IC away. These guidelines apply to other country IC as well. -
