Just telling you plan carefully before you go..... you might like it there, you might not. Not everyone can stand the 'peaceful and quite' lifestyle. The shops close at 5pm.... and the only things to do is to head for the pub.
Don't just listen to ppl who only tell you the Good stuff..... same for ppl who only tell you the Bad. Think and plan for yourself.
BTW..... if Aust is really Heaven on Earth..... why are there so many homeless in Sydney when I was there...... think about it.
From what I remember, Perth or Fremantle was pretty nice and slow. Retire to a nice and small farm, sleep under stars, wake up to the sound of ducks waddling on ponds... Hai...Originally posted by Catknight:For those ppl sick of our HDB and NS life and wish to talk to your MPs like they are your friends, is Australia the place?

Try Canberra.Originally posted by soleachip:From what I remember, Perth or Fremantle was pretty nice and slow. Retire to a nice and small farm, sleep under stars, wake up to the sound of ducks waddling on ponds... Hai...
Will do that after I try central AustraliaOriginally posted by fymk:Try Canberra.
It's ultra boring . Wherever you go - you still can see some farms near the CBD.
Ewww.......go there for a holiday first . Central Australia is made mostly of desert and damn hot. Alice Springs is not exactly a place I want to live in . It is also quite isolated from the major hospitals.Originally posted by soleachip:Will do that after I try central Australia(in the etherealms of my dreams) but thanks!
Some buddies and I could be planning a mini road trip (last attempt at freedom) around Australia, will keep your recommendations in mind. Since you've lived there for a period of time, is it possible for non citizens to rent a car and get around from one state to another?Originally posted by fymk:Ewww.......go there for a holiday first . Coastal always better.
They allow travellers to rent. Hertz is one of the reputable car rentals company. Thanks dude for the info. There are lots of train travel guides available as well so I reckon some research needs to be done. Alice Springs looks like a nice place though am not sure what the chances are of going around via trains. Perhaps driving might be a better choice.Originally posted by fymk:They allow travellers to rent. Hertz is one of the reputable car rentals company. For your reference:

You might as well buy one second hand vehicle for 2-3 k to drive around if you are coming in for a month . Then you sell it back to the shop. Not sure about insurance aspects though but usually salesman will tell you how to get it. Risk : your car can break down in the middle of no where.
If you go down to perth from eastern australia or vice versa - be vary of the road trains. Even my cousin who is an experienced driver dare not try to take them on .
The Stuart ( can't remember what it is called) Highway in South Australia is crap and prone to accidents . Melbourne highway is quite good until you hit NSW Federal Highway - that is a nightmare to negotiate at night and then you end up in Canberra to Sydney . Not sure about NT and Perth - going to NT involves dirt roads and going in the middle of nowhere.
road trains ^
My suggestion : take a train instead of driving or do a combo. Cheaper.Originally posted by soleachip:Thanks dude for the info.
