Sometimes they remove just the clitoris. No pleasure anymore...

so i think.. its more of culture and practice of that time and so the tradition is brought down to all muslims....

It all varies.
Some remove minora, others clitoris, some others just remove a tiny bit of skin, just for 'yi si'.
Doesn't make much diff if it's just the skin. but CLIT... man, no enjoyable sex. -
no, islam does not in anyway state that females must circumcise. the circumcision of females was a practice in parts of africa and the middle east before they became muslims. it was a cultural thing that got mixed with islam...it so happened that as the people in the middle east spread islam, they wrongly packaged the culture with islam and spread it as an islamic practice. often in rural areas especially, the circumcision causes health problems even up to adulthood. during childbirth it can be problematic as well.
in fact, on the basis of potential health problems, islamically speaking, it is discouraged.. -
