Diploma in Game Design and Development (SP) - How feasible?

Basically I do have an actual interest in Game Design and Development, and I'm not just there to slack. However, I'm really wondering what kind of future I'd have since there's only one gaming company in Singapore.
Furthermore, at the moment there is no option to further your studies in this in Singapore, and I'd have to go overseas in order to do so. The problem is that my parents arn't exacly rich, so I'm really wondering if it's feasible for me to take up this course. I'm really really interested in it.
Anyone can provide some insights?give me advice or provide some insights?

Coming from a multimedia background, with some knowledge on game design... Let me give your my 2 cents worth of nothing
3D animation/programming ain't as simple as it looks, unless you are really fervent 'bout it and dead hardworking... you will find yourself struggling with it halfway in the course..
It's really not an easy road to take - from storyboarding, character design, logic planning etc to modeling, animating and coding... it can really drain a person
You are right to say that there isn't any option to further your studies in Singapore yet; and overseas education do cost some money even if you're on a scholarship..
I, however, will advise you to go for the diploma if you're truly interested. But be warned, that many poly students went into their course with so much passion and all... yet lost it all halfway through it...
It's not just about interest sometimes... It's about discipline...

yes i believe that this is a course which requires lotsa passion. and if you can make it, go ahead.
there's nth better then studying what you like, and working in a job that you like as well. -

One gaming company?
Actually there are loads of gaming companies in Singapore........
If i had the money i would love to go high on digital animation and game design......and i would also open my own gaming company and studio and also be one of the first Singaporean company to produce an international CG movie......
I wish it would come true someday......i can just imagine being the director of a game and get the best crew in Singapore so that we can make a name for our country.... -

Game once started will be very hot , then start to died down , unless you can do something really different , if not people will just come and create account and bye bye nia

Just want to re-iterate what they said, takes a lot of hard work and determination.
Coding can almost kill me, I've seen those programs used to create games before, it ain't easy. You need a certain knack to excel in it

Gaming industry in Singapore is so-so only... unless you work with MNCs...
But they got teach a lot of multimedia which is very worth while... -
I believe that IDA actually seeks to position Singapore as a Digital Game Hub in Asia, even though this is definitely low on their list of priorities, for now.
When the Next Generation National Broadband Network is fully online in 2015, the gaming scene will undoubtedly receive a significant boost, so it definitely makes lots of sense to go into the field of game design

Come TP's Games Entertainment Technology. Being a student in that course means you are automatically a member of the Gaming Club.
The club has PS3, XBOX360, Wii plus about 20+ gaming PCs all capable of going on to the internet such as battlenet -

The game GTA Singapore won't work because you carry the gun and walk on the streets like in GTA III, will already get you 5 stars. and i do agree it requires alot of passion.. and many died halfway.

Last time my POA teacher is also study game designer de. If I am not wrong, she's lecturing this diploma, but not sure which module..
She went overseas and make games.. etc.
Heard from her.. it's really a good business.
Go ahead with your interest. If you feel you like this, then do this diploma. After graduation, go overseas and advance your studies. -

Video Production leh? even lecturer herself say b4, wan to take video shld go NP. NP now has HD cameras while SP still using pathetic DV camcorders. oso evrytime got wad event on tv, NP name is always above SP de whether is sponsoring or partnering. so pathetic hor? worse is NP's film and media studies is supported by mediacorp.
HTML learn le nxt time can make websites, yay! but for who leh? nowadays who dunno how to create website? its more of a freelance job and have no stable income. which company redesigns their website everyday?
JAVA worse, learn le oso dunno can do wad nxt time. ya, lecturer say can be programmer, program my ass la
other than ddm, audio technology, which happens to b my 3rd choice, has even lesser future. whr to work aftertat? hype records? tats all. local singing market so small onli got joi chua, stefani sun, tanya chau etc, so dun need so much audio editors.
worse is games design course. spore can dream of making US hit games like maple leave or little fighter, at the most they'll work for Nestle to design pathetic children games distributed to kids for free wif evry purchase of Nestle.
although im interested in vid, interest and reality got difference. its cuz of interest that i joined this course n i was damm wrong. if onli i were more realistic and practical then cuz media in singapore is like so small and we have hundreds and hundreds of pple fighting for a spot in mediacorp.
forget the crap tat the govt pumping millions into media in the future la cuz wun happen de. its juz a pity tat i dint see this while picking sp courses. now regret oso no use le, too late le. its not i like to complain without trying hard or like to rundown media and im an ass for saying all these but its juz the sad truth unless u r extremely extremely extremely extremely super talented or rich. -

from there, u just learn from ur colleagues lor. then keep improving improving.
people dun employ u to design games if u just have a piece of paper. they wan to see wad u can do.
as for the games company, are u sure theres only one? there are plenty, and if u think u can just be a game designer straight after u grad. u wait long long. u can only do so IF u open ur own company.
btw. the things u learn in the course, doesn mean can only be used in games industry. u can use it in other stuff also. like multimedia etc, although not as in depth as courses which specialises in them la.
and u dun have to worry about slacking there. u will in first semester. then 2nd sem more work. then 2nd year. u can prepare to stay in studio until night almost everyday liao.
so bottomline is, if u think u can and is willing to work, then join this course.
