  actually in this day n new geration there is a new 'meaning' to umbrella.
  
  umbrellas protect you from the elements and moisture. and is also know as slang in certain countries to describe condoms.
  
  thus when u give her n umbrella, she might misinterpret it as u wana have safe sex with her...

  im jus kidding lah. its a nice thought to wana buy her an umbrella during the recent crap weather but please do invest in a good one. if it breaks down during heavy rain or strong winds... it wont look good for u.
