The peak oil theory has been predicted for some years already. Most ppl especially politicians and economists dismisses them because it is not good to tell.
Climate change has actually made the "phenomenon" more obvious and could also reverse such a belief because of the unclaimed resources in our N and S polar regions and greenland.
In any case, I think we should all brace ourselves. The future is really not so rosy as what our GDP says. -

another 50 years?same. 10 years ago in sec sch, they told me the same thing.
Anyway Sg has already a energy commission looking into alternative energy sources. They are even giving out very attractive scholarship packages for PhD studies in energy.

The world had been using crude fossil oil for a century only, previously billions of years, crude oil was not used at all, and during ancient Arab times, any water well that are full of oil is consider bad luck for the household, but today, they become instant million or billionaire.
There are still crude oil to go around, but Opec is controlling it so as to gain more money from it, that is why plan are made to use gas, nuclear or even organic oil to replace it, sooner or later someone will hv invented something alternative to crude oil, and that will bring the whole Opec, Arab states back to it ancient times again.
The Arabs are aware and worry about the new invention, once it is sucessful, oil may drop to $1 per barrel, for Opec who control 1/3 of oil production in the world, is trying to test the world, but for the moment, they are make most money out of oil because it their call.

Well, at the rate that oil is being used dialy, it's logical that it would be exhausted soon. Thus they are trying to invent transport that do not use oil... There are existing models but a few years down the road, the price for such device would come down to affordable level.
