Hi Fifi,
Why you got to buy a new card. My very first card also had problems with some readers on buses last year and I had it replace FOC and value transferred immediately. Of course they gave me all the crap excuses initially to make me buy a new card at the Transitlink office cause the lady at the counter can read the card with her desktop reader. But then I still my ground as its not my fault that some buses got defective, sub-standard or poorly maintained readers installed. In the end, she called her supervisor and replaced my card.
The best part was, before I left, she advised not to put the Ezlink card together with my other magnetic stripped ATM and Credit card. What a joke!
Am I right to say that to change to a new card, and thus save the money on the old card, I can go to any MRT station control to do so?

Not MRT station control. They don't handle these matters. Its the SMRT ticketing counters at MRT stations and bus interchanges.
Is there a way to know the expiry date of the ezlink card yourself without going to the ticketing counters?
Can i do this for others too?
