Pay more to cut hair during chinese new year period. Why?

i find it strange that when the barber says he'll charging $2 more because of the festive season, no one question him or anything and just pay him the $2 more.
but when the government (or relevant authorities) incresases GST or anything, it will sure cause an uproar.

Just like how hawker food become more expensive during CNY , or Christmas the bars charge higher for their alchohol and all that.. =P Or numbers with 88888 is ridiculously high priced. Do we question them ?

Because they are typically closed during CNY period. So, increase price for a few dollars to cover the non-business during that period.
At least that's what my barber tells me.
Anyway, I believe in "small fortune no out, big fortune no in". -

there's this saloon normally charge $18, but on that days before CNY they charge $25

yes that is an interesting point as in some shops do close their shop and only reopen them on he 8th day of chinese new year to get a good blessing (i don't what other word to describe it. haha)
but if lets not forget other shops might also close for 7 days as well but they don't really up their price right do them?
having said that, it is the shop who wishes to close for 7 days, it is not that anyone is forcing them to close or anything.
so it falls to the customers who have to pay extra just so that they can close for the 7 days. -

Of course, everyone wants to spend their holiday working right? Once again, they'd have to cover the loss of revenue as well as the rental fee. Another reason, price inelasticity. An increase in the price, to a certain extent, will not effect the amount of customers that comes to have their hair cut during this period. Who doesn't want to earn more money? -
then perhaps they shouldn't close for 7 days and start work on the 3rd day like the rest of singapore.
but point to note is that not all barbers closes for 7 days. some open within the 3rd to 8th day and they still charge the $2 more.

makes economic sense... people want to cut hair so they have a good clean hair cut for new year ma... so demand is high and relatively price inelastic. good for fleecing. hahaa...
people won't complain cause they know of this 'tradition' and besides the absolute increment amount is not very significant. most barbers only raise by a buck actually.
i guess for those who feel uncomfortable can go to places like EC House, QBB where it's fixed at 10. -
