At least a degree from an Ivy league or a school of an equivalent standard, and then some.
An IQ of 160, technically you'll need to be a genius.
Lots and lots and lots of connections
Drive and willpower; you'll work 60-100 hours per week almost all year round.
The path:
Good college, not only for the prestige but also for networking purposes.
Be prepared to work in the back office as an analyst/associate for 3-5 years until you get your CFA/MBA.
If you're lucky you might get into front office trading (top 1%), if not you're stuck in middle office.
Basically the top big name bankers are the cream of the crop, maybe only the top 1%. Good luck. -
