glad dat majority of poly peeps r feeling happy in poly life.
basically i feel diff pple diff percept. but it's better to channel this stress into positive thinking.
my advice is find a bunch of good friends who share same direction wif u. example like forming a study group n studying together after lesson. study hard n play hard while still can.
regarding furb's view, i feel dat there r some pple who r fast learners n they can catch up fast even they dun take notes or slack comparing to hardworking but slow learners.
but if one is lazy, slow-learning plus lack of interests in the course, it will be a hard time surviving in poly. unless u r the type who only want to socialize wif pple n make more friends, then it's ok if u dun mind those dat look down on u. -
as far as i know, none of the campaigns for the polys use "coolness" as their concept. Take a look at NYP's campaign, all u see is a paper clip. you can go thru poly without making any real friends.
jc i think is easier to make frens since you are allocated into classes and the ple tend to be at the same wavelength as you.
sometimes feel i shud haf went to jc instead of poly...

i regretted choosing poly, if i were to have a choice i would go for jc education.
at 16 yrs old , we are expected to choose our career and course path, i think its too early to make such a decision. I choosed a course that i totally hate n all i get now is just a diploma cert with no interest in my area of study. now as i am nearing my ord date, i couldnt recall a single thing taught in poly
In my opinion, unless u are passionate in a area of study in poly, go JC. -

Well, for me i hav been in jc for 1 yr, then currently now i m at ngee ann ending of my year 1. From what i had experienced, in jc you would definitely have MORE frens, cause there arent much backstabbers there. I would not say completely no, but the number is really little.
But when u come to poly, omfg its totally different. If u have that slack mentality then all the best to u, u will still need to study one. In poly, the backstabbers that u meet will be plentiful. In front of u they might act frenly cause u are their so called 'classmate' , when u wanna look for them for help, they dont give a damn n try their best NOT to help u.
This is highly due to poly mates wanting to snatch the freaking 5% slot for uni, if i were u i would go JC and WORK my ASS off. BUT not forgetting my social life in jc, have fun make lots of frens and then enjoy yr 2 yrs in jc and at the same time get good grades go to uni. All the best =) -

My poly life (ending in 1week's time) is so much better than my secondary sch and primary sch life combined. I love the autonomy and freedom colleges can never ever provide.
It probably depends on one's attitude. If you go in with a preconception that everyone is out to backstab and make use of you, then you will going to suffer yourself (think too much?).
You can do well yet have good clique of friends, just don't be overtly arse about your grades and be more sensitive and helpful to your friends. Help them and they'll help you.
So does it train you like as though you're in a work environment? Yes it does! Certainly be more tactful and humble is the key. If you are being an arse, who would want to have anything to do with you? *hint to the ah boy*
Chances are though, i won't be surprised if you came from the poly somewhere in the north...but not the one near the brightest star in the north.... -

In reality, what the TS has said can only be counted towards empirical evidence which is at most a biased opinion about life in POLY. Unless the TS has gone through the JC route as well as the POLY route, TS statement cannot be used to compare with JC life within an acceptable degree of accuracy, and in the event that TS does go through in succession JC and POLY, TS too cannot make such comparisons applicable to a potential entrant due to the fact that experience gained after JC would have put TS in a more advantageous position in POLY and vice versa and all statements thereafter would have been usuitable to any potential entrant going either the POLY route or JC route and if by now you who is reading this feels confused by what I am saying then all I can say is that you are not ready for University.

Even b4 taking ur actual o lvl papers... the polys will be there to start attracting u potential students to their campus with glittering messages/slogans like "Poly life is so hip, no uniform!" ... "So many frens u can make there" etc etc... They spend thousands at open houses and tell u how great campus life is as well as the prospect of their courses etc etc...

poly ok la if u can manage ur time well for assignments.
i agree sometimes u really nid go hunt for ur lecturers. rarely they will come ask u nid help or not. u dun ask ur loss.
assignments deadline are
. sometimes can see ppl slping less than 5 hours a day around deadline time. though assignments release v early, but the stuff may not be taught yet
for those outcast, 2 years liao. 2 years all have. they struggle. think tis year, the outcast gona repeat.
i tink btm line is, u choose to slack = choose to fail
and i tink frens v impt, help each other, u might not noe when u wil screw up and nid some1 to cover up ur ass

there are pros as well as cons
if they think wearing different clothes everyday is cool, think again
thinking about what to wear in the morning is always a bother
projects are a killer too
and you can't go university easily
and 3 years is a waste of time for men, since we still have to go NS
and the make more friends factor is rubbish, it only depends on your personality, like outgoing and etc
although many people despise ITE, they teach good technical skills which a lot of companies would look out for
and JC allows people to go to university easier
blue collars are crap, they merely put some twit with massive makeup on the boards, and manipulate people to have that kind of "OMG POLY IS SO COOL U GET TO SEE LOTSA CHIOBUS"
in the end, it's all the same, ITE, JC or POLY -
not that i hate my poly life, it's only that i don't like the manipulating skills of the poly people, who keep doing the 'psycho-ing' thing on freshies

regarding the kid stated dat "lecturers who cuddnt be bothered to help", maybe i feel he has negative views regarding them.
it's true dat lecturers do not help due to their busy schedule, as long as u dun open ur mouth n approach them, they will assure dat u already know everything they teach in lecturers. so i find it's better when u r in doubt, ask them after every lecture or approach them by making appointment wif them. DUN last min during before exam period then start to find them (li shi pao fu jiao).
n one thing i encountered myself is some lecturers can be bias toward good students n impart them everything. tis is becos these students keen to learn comparing to students who r uninterested. so better let the lecturers know u r someone who r keen to learn n having good impression of u.
it is not ashame to ask stupid question too. cos u nvr know they can be useful for future sake. -

if u can make it into jc, why even think of going to poly?
does poly even have any benefits over any jc?
an A lv cert wil definitely get u into the uni course of ur choice much easier than a diploma.
furthermore, ppl think that they go to poly to get 'experience' earlier for their future job, so that they may be hired instead of their jc counterparts.
this is a BIG misconception.
ppl think that they wanna be researcher and go poly get 'hands on' experience, then when they look for job, they are hired by research labs to be lab tech: go there wash test tube.
paper qualifications are the basic things companies look out for (ie. 4 As for A lvs), everything else is an added bonus.
if u dont even have good qualifications, shudnt think of getting a better, or even equal job as someone who has higher qualifications than u.
no offence to poly ppl.

cos i'm not the type who love mugging textbooks. n studying those subjects dat r dull can be such a pain.
n these days diploma n A lvl r diff admission actually. a relevant diploma to relevant degree course can entitled one to be direct to second year; whilst for Alvl peeps, they have to compete for 1st year courses n it may be base on their results - do well u get ur desire course like law or medical, do badly u still have to depend on fate dat other pple's result n thus may not get the course of ur choice. -

I went into poly thinking it was gonnabe so much better den sec sch due to the fact that i wont be nagged at so much by teachers all the time as well as going into a field of study I was more suited to (dealing with computers and programs etc) and not stuff which r irrelevant to my future like History and social studies...

When he goes to JC, he will find out this is what is happening
- He don't understand what is being taught in school
-He faces pressure from parents who nag at him for fearing that his results will not be good enough to go university
-his parents spend a few hundred dollars or maybe a few thousand dollars a month employing tution teachers to help him
-his A level results are not good enough to go university. He end up going to poly or go to a pte sch to take a degree.
-he is very lucky. His results are good enough to go NUS, NTU or SMU. But he have to serve ns after his JC finishs. After his ns, he feels that he is old already and he wants to start working and stop studying
- Assuming that he decided to go NUS, NTU or SMU to study after his ns. After studying for a few months, he realised that his parents got no $ to pay for his school fees. Plus there are backstabbers, lecturers who don't care about him and tons of deadlines to meet etc etc, he quits school halfway.
So tell the kid to wake up his bloody idea, stop being a dreamer and whiner -
I can only comment about jc and uni life here.
Jc life is much better than uni life imo as all the students are competing against the whole cohorts of A levels students in singapore and not just competing among themselves. There is a tendency to help one another as you are all from the same jc. The class is also closer together and most lecturers are very caring.
in uni, you have to compete among the students in your own uni and course. There is a huge tendency of unwillingness to help and backstabbing. Lecturers are more concerned about their researches(publish journals) than teaching. After all, in NUS, all the professors are highly rated. If they dont publish anything in 2-3 years, they will be kicked out. -
