  Why? Cannot call Ah Tong or Ah Kong.... Why loan shark must call Ah Long in Chinese?

  Is Singapore the only country to call Loanshark 'Ah Long' ?

  In malay when you hear they call somebody pak  long or mak long is refering to the eldest........i.e. eldest uncle, auntie.....

  its derived from the word sulung which means eldest.....

  Many older hokkien male have names that ends with Beng something ie.like Beng Huat ,Beng Seng now if he is a Chinese Muslim then maybe his name could be Beng La Deng
