For those who keep them before actually these peeps are intelligent
they are the soldiers of the spider world
they are arc enemies of jumping spiders ( another kind of spider which looks similar to them)...i used to feed them tiny caterpillars, daddy long legs and small black ants(plentiful and easily found)...its a fulfilling hobby and a pleasure keeping them....and hunting for their food good outdoor activity..last time Singapore weather was not hot as now, and there were many patches of "bushland"as they call it in Australia.when i was young around 9-13 years old i was keeping them as u can see for many years until the the Internet and gaming consoles took over from the early 90s

Yeah. Actually sometimes I just catch the spiders in my home and put them in a container. After a while they start to fight then 1 will die.
usually they can be found in wet bushes..usually these wet bushes provide a water source for small insects like caterpillar , ants ect...

Spider Fighting
MANILA, Philippines - Education officials in a southern Philippine province have banned spider wrestling, a favorite children's pastime in many rural areas, to discourage students from skipping classes to catch spiders, an official said Thursday.
The ban began last week after education officials noticed that an increasing number of absences among school children were traced to the game, said Isidro Valeroso, superintendent of the Department of Education in North Cotabato province. Valeroso said spider wrestling, in which children collect spiders and have them fight to the death on a stick, also encourages children to gamble.
The spiders wrestle ferociously for a few seconds amid the cheers of children. The battle ends when the champion completely wraps the vanquished spider in a cocoon of webbing. Children often bet on the outcome. Children usually go to meadows or farms at dawn or dusk to catch spiders, sometimes skipping classes or coming in late. They usually house their best "gladiators" in matchboxes.
Many aficionados spend large amounts of time searching for the best spiders. Most of the spiders are collected from trees but some children say the best fighters are found on electric power lines. A prized fighter sells for up to 100 pesos ($2.40).
"We have to teach children that spiders are a farmer's best friend because they catch insects that destroy or damage crops," Valeroso said. "We really have to stop children from killing spiders."
forgot the scientific name for these spiders...anyone can recall?
Diagnoses of genera of South East Asia: Dark salticids with broad flattish carapace and long front legs. Found on shrubs and plants. General remarks: Spiders of this group are not uncommon on the leaves of garden shrubs as well as in rain forest. They attract the attention (especially of children) because the males are often seen confronting one another in a threatening manner and conducting what appears to be a sparring bout. This analogy comes about because the males hold their front legs in much the same way as two boxers approaching each other. Aided by good eyesight, this type of behaviour is not uncommon in lively, colourful salticid males and, under suitable conditions, can be induced by bringing up a mirror in front of such a salticid male
Thiania bhamoensis
http://habitatnews.nus.edu.sg/guidebooks/spiders/text/Thiania_bhamoensis.htm
Singapore children are familiar with the sparring behaviour between the males of this species. Females also fight each other, but the combat does not show the same degree of vigour as in the male-to-male fray. Classification: Family Salticidae, Jumping Spiders
Habitat: Garden and roadside hedges.
Distribution: Singapore (new record), Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar.
The spider builds a nest by binding two leaves together with vertical strands of silk, perpendicular to the leaf surfaces. It is not an active hunter, but tends to remain in wait near and in the nest for the prey to stray within leaping distance.
more discussion abt this interesting topic pls...
i feel like going to to the Bushes ..anyone?
up again!...why none has replied ?
I had so much fun with those spiders when I was a kid!!!
oh my god !! hahaha good old times ya.
last time i use to find it also around the bush around the void deck. they are aways in between 2 leaves, and some time, when you open the wrong one, u get a nest of ants or some other insects inside. it is just like kinder suprise.
i let my spiders eat other spiders, those common jumping spiders found at home or those long leg one found on top of the corridor. this train them to be even more agressive i belive.

My favourite too...Nowadays Thomson that area still have alotttt....
last time the spiders r kept in matchbox wif leaves.
its not a good idea keep them with leaves in a matchbox...cos i heard they suffocate to death cos the leaves block the holes which let in oxygen
good food to give them are daddy long legs
daddy long legs ( if those who dnno what they are) are the very fragile skinny stick like spiders u find in your room's dark corners...
