I heard that its not recognised by the government sector, but if she is gonna work for private companies, they shouldnt be too bothered. Is that true?

i heard about the government sector thing too...
dunno leh, i don't think they'll be bothered, except i don't know if they will have preference for those holding degrees from local universities and well-known foreign universities... i'm really not good with this, so let's wait for people who know to come in and help ![]()
sorry i need to hijack this thread for a while i need info ASAP and my last thread got moved to some ulu forum.
ntu open house only one day is it? it's over already?
Sunday still have.
alrighty bro.
UOL is a recognised University from what I know.
they offer courses mainly towards the business sector but I guess most students go for the Acct. and Finance course.
just a word of advise. doesn't mean you graduate young means you're an outstanding student.
i just hope that this friend of yours would mature first before taking any courses in the Uni. if she can't even cope properly with her studies in JC, what makes you think she can score in the U? it doesn't mean you enter old means you're lousy/slow or anything. just the mentality instill in you. furthermore rushing through and taking courses you don't even like/no interest, things may turn out worse at the end.
take time to think things through, working in relavant areas may be a good start. there is actually a section on "Mature Applicants", probaly for those who are above 25 with relavant job experience can apply through here.
hope this helps ![]()
Since you say your friend is a girl, then she wont get in unisim as well. Unisim requires 2 years of working experience. Since she cannot go NS, she will have to go out and work first and then she can choose to take part time/night class studies in uniSIM.
D, D, E is almost confirm cannot get in any courses in NUS, NTU, SMU. Even D, D, C also no hope i think. Minimum is C, C, D. and you friend will only get in dumping ground course which no one wants to take.

There any chance to enter any course at all in NUS, NTU or SMU?
Does SIM look at these grades for admission too?
Just asking for a friend

To answer your question, I worked at a bank before and some of the bank officers/managers there hold degrees from SIM (obviously some of them don't stop with just a bachelors). And as for government positions, one of the top grads got employed by the stats board.
Anyway, its an employees market now and firms nowadays are less discerning towards whether grads come from a public or private financed uni. Bear in mind that the whole situation would be easily reversed if its an employer's market and that public financed unis definitely have a leg up over their rivals due to their branding and aggresive student placement office.
Its all ultimately a question of labour demand and supply if you wish to discuss about degree recognizability.
very tough to get into local U with an 'E' grade..
but no harm trying tough..good luck
Forget NUS, NTU and SMU.
Only SIM can. That's private and kinda crap.

to some extend yes..
but i have also heard of coys where they reg only certain certs..
eg, the top few uni's in aussie, not jus any tom dick or harry certs..
so its v impt to get a good private cert..so tat next time u can have more choices

why SIM = crap?
dont think can enter smu with that.. =(
I hear some of my friends say that SIM does take a look at grades even though they dont place too much of an emphasis on it. Would it be better to retake As, go poly, or go university?
To be honest, very very unlikely. What's PW?
I think even CDE is hard.
PW is project work

and it has an unreasonably high weightage in the score.
to TS, what's band3 btw? PW is A, B, C, D, E, S, U...
My friend took the old A level syllabus exams, so PW is still graded under bands. I'm not sure what is the equivalent of a Band 3, but i know it is worth 4 points, if counted into the university entry score.

speaking of which, how are the university scores computed under the new system?
