     Let the seven digits be denoted by D1D2D3D4D5D6D7, where Di denotes 

     the i-th digit in the NRIC number.  The formula is this:

   

     1.  Calculate X = 2 * D1 + 7 * D2 + 6 * D3 + 5 * D4 + 

                       4 * D5 + 3 * D6 + 2 * D7.

   

     2.  Calculate Y, which is the remainder of X divided by 11.

   

     3.  Calculate Z = 11 - Y.

   

     The check letter is given according to the following table:

      1            A

      2            B
