on top of what is explained by Cz (thanks!) u could always write kanji in its hiragana form though not recommended cos of ambiguity and it being harder to read. -

I would recommend bunka, cos it focuses more on conversation. after all in learning a language, speaking & listening shld be primary, while writing & reading comes second.

I think i save marnie, learn the basics watching "movies". SO if i ever got a chance with a japanese lady in bed when we communciate most important i at leash hav the basics command of the j-language.
come to think of it i rather watch a foreign film with no dub but english subs instead. enjoy the conversation as they were but please provide hard and accurate subs by professionals or good translators.
